Kolkata, Mar 8: Training his guns at the Centre on corruption issue, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who today kickstarted the Left's poll campaign, slammed the Congress-led government for not disclosing the names of those who have stashed blackmoney in foreign banks.

"Billions in black money have been stashed away in German and Swiss banks and our central government knows who the depositors are. It has the moral responsibility to inform the nation, but it has not done so," Bhattacharjee told a Left Front election rally in Jadavpore assembly constituency.

Bhattacharjee demanded that the "huge amount" of blackmoney be immediately brought back to the country "as this is the money of the nation and the Centre should act on it".

"There is a nexus between capitalists and corrupt politicians who are bent upon exporting national treasure which is alarming. We know the nature of the Congress which will never oppose or fight corruption," Bhattacharjee alleged.

The chief minister, who kicked off the Left Front's electioneering from Mahestala this evening, lashed out at the Centre for presenting a 'directionless' Union Budget which, he said, spoke of no measure to curb growth of blackmoney or arrest the spiralling price rise.

Referring to the DMK-Congress tussle, he said, "It is not clear to us why DMK extended support to the UPA and why it withdrew it." PTI
