Rampur: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan today took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said "brooms were handed over to jobless youths instead of employment by Modi".

Speaking at a public rally at Shahbad, 60 kilometres from here, Khan hit out at the central government's stance on bringing back black money stashed in foreign banks as well as other policy issues.

"He (Modi) had promised to provide employment to jobless youths but instead brooms were handed over to them," he said.

Referring Modi as "Badshah", Azam said, "The Badshah (emperor)had announced to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks with in 100 days but now after more than 200 days let PM tell us about the fate of that wealth."

The Uttar Pradesh urban development minister also stated that politics based on false promises does not last long.

"Modiji has opted the same course by opening kitty of false assurances during recent campaigning," he said.

"If Modi would have opted to stand by his assurances, I might not have come here to distribute rugs to the people affected by cold," the minister added sarcastically.

Khan distributed rugs to the poverty-ridden people and try-cycles to the disabled at Shahabad town.

The SP leader who has run into rough weather for his controversial statements on many instances, said that "Persons like Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse might not have hesitated to eliminate the great patriots".
