New Delhi, Sept 30: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, an accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam, today requested a Delhi court to allow an attendant to look after him at AIIMS where he is lodged in a private ward in judicial custody.

Singh's counsel, in a plea before Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, submitted that since the former Samajwadi Party general secretary is lodged in a private ward at AIIMS, he is required to be looked after.

The application also said that since Singh's wife Pankaja Singh has to look after their two school-going children, an attendant should be allowed to visit Singh besides his wife to look after him on a rotational basis.

“It is humbly submitted that the court may please allow an attendant on a rotation basis as it is not possible for his wife to remain there throughout day and night.

“It is humbly submitted that apart from wife of the applicant one more person be allowed to attend to the applicant on rotation basis,” Singh's counsel told the court.

The court has asked the Tihar jail superintendent to file a report on the issue.

Meanwhile, Singh's counsels S P M Tripathi and N Hariharan were allowed to meet him today only in judicial custody at AIIMS for twenty minutes after they submitted that the authorities concerned were not allowing any legal meeting for want of court's permission and requested that they be allowed to meet him between 4 pm to 6 pm.

The court had on September 28 rejected Singh's interim and regular bail pleas saying his role was “major” in the entire episode aimed at “disgracing” parliamentary democracy. PTI
