Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today accused the Election Commission(EC) of encouraging people to vote for those parties and candidates who are offering them bribe.
Endorsing a tweet of his colleague Ashutosh which claimed that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers witnessed some people distributing money among voters in Goa, Kekriwal alleged that the Election Commission has failed to curb the flow of money used to influence voters.
"EC fails to stop this. EC prevents me from saying-"Take money from them and vote for us. EC's message - vote for those who give you money," Kejriwal said.
On Monday, Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi saying that he should be made the brand ambassador of the EC if it really wanted to end use of money to lure voters during elections.
Kejriwal’s letter came after the Election Commission censored him for "deliberately and intentionally" instigating the public to take bribes for voting in the Goa assembly election scheduled for February 4.
"The allegation is baseless. The truth is I am trying to curb bribery. The whole nation knows the AAP was born to fight corruption and bribery and is committed to put an end to it," Kejriwal wrote in his letter.
"What wrong am I saying? If I asked them to vote for the same party that they take money from, that would be bribery. I am telling them not to vote for the party which gives them money," he added.
