State of emergency in Venezuela

At least seven explosions were heard in various parts of Caracas, with the sound of low-flying aircraft reported by local residents. The damage was significant, with smoke seen rising from a military hangar in the capital, and power outages affecting several military facilities.

According to Venezuelan government officials, the US military strikes targeted not only the capital but also the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. The Venezuelan government quickly responded by declaring a state of emergency, with Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino speaking out against the foreign military intervention, labeling it an attack on both civilian and military targets.

The Pentagon has yet to make an official statement, directing inquiries to the White House. However, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has implemented a temporary ban on US commercial flights entering Venezuelan airspace, citing ongoing military operations in the region.

Venezuelan government condemns attack

Venezuelan officials have condemned the US airstrikes, calling them an illegal act of aggression. Minister Padrino also indicated that the country is compiling information regarding potential casualties, although no confirmed death toll has been released.

"Venezuela will resist the presence of foreign troops in our land,” Padrino said in a video message early on Saturday.

South Korea orders caution

In a statement released by the South Korean government, President Lee Jae-myung ordered authorities to prioritize the safety of South Korean nationals residing in Venezuela. The Blue House also indicated that South Korean officials are preparing to evacuate any citizens if the situation worsens.
