New Delhi: According to classified documents obtained by a group of former workers at Thule, an Arctic air and radar base built by the United States in 1951-52, The United States abandoned a nuclear weapon beneath the ice in northern Greenland following a B-52 Bomber crash in 1968.
The B-52 bomber was carrying 4 Hydrogen bombs. Documents indicate that only three of the bombs were accounted .
Document dated August 31, 1968 said all weapons on board the crashed aircraft had been accounted for but did not spell out whether they had been recovered.Documents also states that the United States searched secretly for the fourth bomb, without success.
