Kathmandu: A veteran Communist leader of Nepal today accused India of attempting to topple Prime Minister K P Oli-led government to derail growing Nepal-China ties.

Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe said Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Prachanda were trying to topple the CPN-UML Chairman Oli-led government under the direction of the southern neighbour.

He said that India wanted to topple the Oli government which was planning to ensure an early visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Xi's visit could be a significant achievement for Nepal, he said.

"If the new government would not move ahead toward implementing various agreements signed with China, it could be disastrous for Nepal," warned Bijukchhe.

Bijukchhe said that a new government would complicate implementation of the new Constitution and could not resolve the issue relating to Madhesi people, mostly of Indian-origin.

The task of post-earthquake reconstruction and distribution of relief material to the flood affected people could be hamper due to the change in government, he said.

The Maoists of Nepal today  joined hands  with the main opposition party  Nepali Congress and filed a no-confidence motion against the prime minister K P Oli.

The motion was filed in parliament a day after the Maoist party pulled out of the government, accusing Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli of failing to honour past agreements.

The Maoists and the main opposition Nepali Congress party are now trying to form a new coalition government.

Oli is refusing to resign, insisting he'll face the confidence vote, which will likely take place next week. It could take weeks for a new coalition government to take power.
