DVAC raids houses of former DMK ministers

Dindigul, May 18: Continuing their crackdown on former DMK ministers in connection with disproportionate assets cases, Vigilance officials on Friday raided houses of former Revenue and Housing Minister I Periyasamy and his relatives in parts of Dindigul district.




The raids were in progress at the residences of Mr. Periyasamy, his son and daughter at Athoor and Bathlagundu, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sources said.

The DVAC has registered a case against Mr. Periyasamy, DMK's Dindigul district secretary and MLA, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He has been charged with accumulating wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as minister in 2006-11.

A spinning mill at Bathlagundu belonging to his family was also raided.

Yesterday, the DVAC had raided houses of former minister Veerapandi S Arumugam and his relatives in Chennai, Salem and Dharmapuri districts in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly amassing wealth over Rs 2.88 crore during his tenure as Agriculture Minister in the previous DMK regime.
