    Lift collapse deaths in Thane: Bodies taken to Bihar for last rites

    A day after seven labourers were killed when a lift in an under-construction 42-story building collapsed in Ghodbunder Road area of Thane, several of their colleagues were waiting on Monday to take the bodies to their native Bihar for cremation. Raman Kumar Das, who works at another site in Andheri in Mumbai, told reporters outside Thane civil hospital that all the deceased were from the same village in Samastipur in the eastern state and would join such works for Rs 150-200 per day.

    10 MBBS students suspended for 'ragging' juniors in Telangana

    Ten MBBS students of state-run Gandhi Medical College here were suspended on Monday for one year, for allegedly ragging their juniors. The suspension orders were issued after the anti-ragging committee took a decision to this effect following an inquiry which found them to be "indulging in ragging" over the past few days, an official said.

    Govt committed to giving quota to Maratha community, decision taken must be foolproof, says CM Shinde

    Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said his government is committed to giving reservations to the Maratha community by proving its social and educational backwardness. He was speaking to reporters at Pune's Bhimashankar Temple, one of the 12 'jyotirlingas' in the country. "It is our clear stand to give reservations to the Maratha community. When Devendra Fadnavis was chief minister (between 2014 and 2019), we had given reservations to the Maratha community but it was set aside by the Supreme Court," he said.

    MCD to release detained stray dogs back into their territories

    The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday said that the dogs picked up for sterilisation, immunisation, and observation are being released in their areas, an official statement said. The entire process is being carried out in consonance of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, it said. The civic body's response came a day after the G20 Leaders' Summit concluded in the national capital.

    Police arrest 3 men from Delhi's Khajuri Khas in Faridabad stabbing

    The Faridabad Police on Monday arrested three persons for allegedly stabbing to death a man and injuring his friend in Panchsheel colony here, an officer said. All three men were nabbed from Khajuri Khas in east Delhi. The arrested persons have been identified as Raja, Yamin, and Buga alias Guga alias Goga alias Azhar. According to police, Alok, 21, was stabbed in Panchsheel Colony late Friday night.

    Missing teen's body found in water-filled underpass in Ambala

    The body of a 13-year-old missing boy was found in a water-filled railway underpass in Ambala cantonment on Monday, police said. Krishna, a resident of Ambala Cantonment, was missing since 3 pm on Sunday and his body was recovered from the underpass near Nanhera Flyover located on the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway, they said. The underpass was filled with around 10-foot-deep water, they said, adding the body was taken out with the help of divers.

    Mamata on 11-day tour of Spain, Dubai from Tuesday

    West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she will attend business summits and hold meetings with several businessmen during her 11-day tour of Spain and Dubai to attract investments to the state. Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee said she will leave for Dubai on Tuesday morning, where she will spend the night due to the unavailability of connecting flights, before flying to Spain's capital Madrid the next day.

    Jharkhand cops seize 16,500 beers bottles from truck, driver arrested

    As many as 16,500 bottles worth around Rs 28 lakh were seized from a truck on the Ranchi-Patna national highway under Kuju outpost police station of Ramgarh district on Monday, police said. Kishore Kumar Rajak, a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Ramgarh, said the truck, on its way to Hazaribag from Bokaro, was intercepted on NH-33 under Kuju outpost police station. The driver, Fani Ram (50), hailing from Kanjkiro village under Narayanpur police station in Bokaro district, was arrested for failing to produce valid documents, Rajak said.

    Man burned to death inside car after cylinder burst in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar

    A 24-year-old man was burned alive on Monday after a cylinder kept in his car exploded in Sriganganagar district, police said. The victim has been identified as Sanket Bansal, resident of New Chawla Colony of the district, they said. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Bansal was talking on his phone while driving and suddenly a gas cylinder kept there caught fire and exploded, DSP Prashant Kaushik said.

    Woman stabbed to death by husband over suspected affair in Delhi

    A 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death on suspicion of infidelity in Maujpur area of northeast Delhi, police said on Monday. “A PCR call regarding a man stabbing his wife in Vijay Mohalla, Maujpur was received at 1.06 am on Monday. Nisha (32) was stabbed multiple times at her house by her husband Sajid," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.

    RBI approves reappointment of Sandeep Bakhshi as ICICI Bank MD for 3 years

    Private sector ICICI Bank on Monday said the RBI has approved the reappointment of Sandeep Bakhshi as Managing Director and CEO of the private lender for three years. The reappointment of Bakhshi will be effective from October 4, 2023, till October 3, 2026, ICICI Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank's shareholders have already approved the appointment of Bakhshi for three more years, it added.

    Over 3,900 people held in child marriage cases in five years: Assam CM

    Altogether 3,907 people have been arrested in Assam in cases relating to child marriage in the past five years, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.     Over 100 toilets constructed for transgenders in Delhi, govt tells HC

    Over 100 toilets have been built for exclusive use by transgender people in the national capital, the city authorities informed the Delhi High Court on Monday. The counsel for the social welfare department told a bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma that a total of 102 such toilets have been built and 194 more are under construction. "Efforts are being made and further action will be taken expeditiously," the counsel told the court.
