Additional Director General (Eastern Sector) of the Border Roads Organisation, PKH Singh inspected several ongoing infrastructure projects in Sikkim and northern West Bengal. He reviewed the progress of the projects during his visit to the region from September 7-11.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha patriarch and former chief minister Shibu Soren was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi following health complications, an official said. His son and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accompanied the 79-year-old to the hospital, the official added.

A day after seven labourers were killed when a lift in an under-construction 42-story building collapsed in Ghodbunder Road area of Thane, several of their colleagues were waiting on Monday to take the bodies to their native Bihar for cremation. Raman Kumar Das, who works at another site in Andheri in Mumbai, told reporters outside Thane civil hospital that all the deceased were from the same village in Samastipur in the eastern state and would join such works for Rs 150-200 per day.

Ten MBBS students of state-run Gandhi Medical College here were suspended on Monday for one year, for allegedly ragging their juniors. The suspension orders were issued after the anti-ragging committee took a decision to this effect following an inquiry which found them to be "indulging in ragging" over the past few days, an official said.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said his government is committed to giving reservations to the Maratha community by proving its social and educational backwardness. He was speaking to reporters at Pune's Bhimashankar Temple, one of the 12 'jyotirlingas' in the country. "It is our clear stand to give reservations to the Maratha community. When Devendra Fadnavis was chief minister (between 2014 and 2019), we had given reservations to the Maratha community but it was set aside by the Supreme Court," he said.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday said that the dogs picked up for sterilisation, immunisation, and observation are being released in their areas, an official statement said. The entire process is being carried out in consonance of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, it said. The civic body's response came a day after the G20 Leaders' Summit concluded in the national capital.

The Faridabad Police on Monday arrested three persons for allegedly stabbing to death a man and injuring his friend in Panchsheel colony here, an officer said. All three men were nabbed from Khajuri Khas in east Delhi. The arrested persons have been identified as Raja, Yamin, and Buga alias Guga alias Goga alias Azhar. According to police, Alok, 21, was stabbed in Panchsheel Colony late Friday night.

Kerala police on Monday apprehended a man who had absconded after allegedly running over a 15-year-old boy on August 30 with his car near Poovachal here. Police nabbed the accused Priyaranjan from Tamil Nadu and brought him to Kerala for further interrogation.

The body of a 13-year-old missing boy was found in a water-filled railway underpass in Ambala cantonment on Monday, police said. Krishna, a resident of Ambala Cantonment, was missing since 3 pm on Sunday and his body was recovered from the underpass near Nanhera Flyover located on the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway, they said. The underpass was filled with around 10-foot-deep water, they said, adding the body was taken out with the help of divers.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she will attend business summits and hold meetings with several businessmen during her 11-day tour of Spain and Dubai to attract investments to the state. Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee said she will leave for Dubai on Tuesday morning, where she will spend the night due to the unavailability of connecting flights, before flying to Spain's capital Madrid the next day.

As many as 16,500 bottles worth around Rs 28 lakh were seized from a truck on the Ranchi-Patna national highway under Kuju outpost police station of Ramgarh district on Monday, police said. Kishore Kumar Rajak, a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Ramgarh, said the truck, on its way to Hazaribag from Bokaro, was intercepted on NH-33 under Kuju outpost police station. The driver, Fani Ram (50), hailing from Kanjkiro village under Narayanpur police station in Bokaro district, was arrested for failing to produce valid documents, Rajak said.

A 24-year-old man was burned alive on Monday after a cylinder kept in his car exploded in Sriganganagar district, police said. The victim has been identified as Sanket Bansal, resident of New Chawla Colony of the district, they said. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Bansal was talking on his phone while driving and suddenly a gas cylinder kept there caught fire and exploded, DSP Prashant Kaushik said.

One person was killed and 10 others suffered injuries when members of two communities clashed at a village in Maharashtra's Satara district following an "objectionable" post on social media, police said on Monday. The incident, which took place at Pusesawali village in Khatao tehsil on Sunday night, led to tension between the two communities, prompting the police administration to suspend Internet services in the district as a precautionary measure, they said.

A 98-year-old woman was found murdered in Peddapalli district, said police on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday night at the victim's home, they said. Nampally Rajamma was living alone in Chandapalli locality of Peddapalli town. The woman was allegedly beaten to death with an iron rod.

A 58-year-old asthma patient died on Monday after the vehicle in which he was being taken to a hospital got stuck in mud on a kutcha road in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, police said. Following the incident, angry family members and villagers protested by placing the body on the national highway and demanded a pucca road and compensation for the family of the deceased.

A 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death on suspicion of infidelity in Maujpur area of northeast Delhi, police said on Monday. “A PCR call regarding a man stabbing his wife in Vijay Mohalla, Maujpur was received at 1.06 am on Monday. Nisha (32) was stabbed multiple times at her house by her husband Sajid," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.

Private sector ICICI Bank on Monday said the RBI has approved the reappointment of Sandeep Bakhshi as Managing Director and CEO of the private lender for three years. The reappointment of Bakhshi will be effective from October 4, 2023, till October 3, 2026, ICICI Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank's shareholders have already approved the appointment of Bakhshi for three more years, it added.

Altogether 3,907 people have been arrested in Assam in cases relating to child marriage in the past five years, the state Assembly was informed on Monday. Out of them, 3,319 are facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, while replying to a question by Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia.

Eleven people were killed in rain-related incidents in the past 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh where incessant rain hit normal life, especially in the central part of the state with schools being shut for a day in some places. Lashing out at the central government for what she termed its “vendetta politics”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted on Monday that her partymen would pray at Rajghat, if permission to protest there on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary was denied. A San Francisco (SFO)-bound Air India flight from Bengaluru, with more than 280 people onboard, was diverted to a city in Alaska due to a technical issue, according to an airline official. After fixing the issue, flight AI 175 took off and landed at San Francisco at around 1000 hours India time on Monday, the official said.

Two friends were killed when their car collided head-on with a mini truck in Odisha's Nayagarh district, police said on Monday. The accident occurred on Sunday night near Mahipur village under the Nayagarh Police Station limits, when the collision took place between the car and the goods vehicle, a senior officer said.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday declined to divulge details of the two "confidential" letters he sent to the Centre and the state government two days ago and said he does not want Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to carry any stress during her scheduled official tour to Spain. Two persons died in Kannauj while one lost her life in Muzaffarnagar in separate incidents of roof collapse owing to heavy overnight rains, officials said on Monday. Two teen brothers died in Kannauj after the thatched roof of their house collapsed following overnight rains, the officials said. The incident took place in Lalkiyapur village in the Tirwa area on Sunday, they said.

A passenger travelling on budget carrier IndiGo's flight to Guwahati from here was handed over to the Guwahati police on arrival for allegedly sexually harassing a passenger onboard, the airline said on Monday. The complainant has filed an FIR with the local police and the airline will provide assistance in investigation when required, IndiGo said in a statement.

Over 100 toilets have been built for exclusive use by transgender people in the national capital, the city authorities informed the Delhi High Court on Monday. The counsel for the social welfare department told a bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma that a total of 102 such toilets have been built and 194 more are under construction. "Efforts are being made and further action will be taken expeditiously," the counsel told the court.
