    Three candidates detained for cheating in competitive exam in Rajasthan

    Three candidates were detained for alleged cheating in a competitive examination in Rajasthan's Bikaner district on Sunday, police said. During a raid at a centre during revenue officer and superintending officer 2023 examination conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, activities of two persons were found suspicious, Bikaner Superintendent of Police Tejaswani Gautam said. During checking, police found that the two had put on hair wigs which were fitted with batteries, SIM cards and other devices to be used for cheating during the exam, she said.

    Shooting at Arizona neighbourhood kills 2, wounds 5

    A shooting at a neighbourhood gathering in Arizona left two people dead and five wounded, police said on Sunday. The shooting happened just before 11 pm on Saturday in the southwestern city of Yuma, said Yuma police spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin. She said an investigation is underway but no suspects have been arrested. A motive for the shooting wasn't immediately known, but Franklin said there was no remaining threat to the community. Officers went to the gathering after getting reports of an aggravated assault, Franklin said. When they arrived, they found seven people with gunshot wounds.

    Public accepted issues raised during 'Jan Sangharsh Yatra': Sachin Pilot

    Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot on Sunday said the public has accepted the issues on which he started his "Jan Sangharsh Yatra" -- corruption and government recruitment exam paper leaks. The yatra, on its fourth day on Sunday, covered a distance of around 25 km from Mehla town in Jaipur district to Mahapura, where the dissident Congress leader is scheduled to stay the night. Addressing his supporters from the top of a bus in Mahapura on the Ajmer highway, Pilot said the yatra will reach its destination in Jaipur Monday. "The public has accepted the issues on which the yatra was started -- paper leaks and corruption -- for the future of the youth and clean politics," he said. "This is not about a person...the public is standing by the issues with which we started," he said.

    Maha: Rubber-making unit gutted in fire; none hurt

    A rubber manufacturing unit was gutted in a fire at Wada in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Sunday, Fire Brigade officials said. No casualty was reported. The blaze erupted at around 4 AM. It was brought under control after four hours, the officials said. A short circuit is the prime facie cause of the fire.

    Delhi logs 26 fresh Covid cases

    Delhi on Sunday recorded 26 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.49 per cent, according to data shared by the city government's health department. With the fresh cases, Delhi's case tally climbed to 20,40,447. The death toll remained unchanged at 26,651, the health department said in its bulletin. The national capital has not reported any Covid-related deaths in the last two days. The health department did not issue a health bulletin on Saturday. Delhi recorded 43 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.07 per cent and two deaths on Friday.

    Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in the country soon and polygamy would come to an end. He was addressing “Hindu Ekta Yatra” organised by Telangana BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar at Karimnagar. "There are some people in India who thought they can marry four women. That was their thinking. But, I say you will not be able to do four marriages. Those days are going to come to an end. That day is not far.     Lucknow student Mohammad Aryan Tariq is the state topper of the CISCE Class 12 examination, the results of which were declared on Sunday. Tariq of City Montessori Inter College, Rajajipuram, is also the all-India topper, jointly sharing the first rank with four others. He scored 399 marks out of 400 (99.75 per cent), as per information provided by the Council of the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), which conducted the examination.

    Delhi records max temp of 40.9 Deg C

    The maximum temperature in the national capital on Sunday settled at 40.9 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average temperature, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.9 degrees Celsius, it said. The relative humidity oscillated between 30 and 60 per cent and the department has predicted partly cloudy sky with strong surface winds for Monday. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42 degrees Celsius while the minimum is expected to settle at 24 degrees Celsius on Monday, officials said. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 41.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 22 degrees Celsius.

    Five killed as truck falls into gorge in Himachal's Kangra

    Five people, three of them members of a family, were killed on Sunday when the truck they were travelling in rolled down a 100-metre-deep gorge near Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, officials said. The accident took place in the Rasehar village in the afternoon, they said. Four people died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. A team of personnel from the district administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police has arrived at the scene, according to a release issued by the Kangra District Public Relations Officer (DPRO). The wheat-laden truck fell into the gorge along the approach road near Uthadagran panchayat, it said.

    Four of family mowed down by car in Prayagraj

    Four members of a family, including a minor, died after being run over by a car in this district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in Dadoli village on Saturday night, they said. Some members of the family were sitting in front of their house when the speeding car hit them and overturned, Pooramufti Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar said. Those killed were identified as Rajendra Gupta (35), Sarita Devi (32), Arnav (8) and Lallu Ram (50), while one person was injured and is undergoing treatment, he said.

    The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) on Sunday announced a protest in Delhi against the collection of registration fees from pilgrims intending to visit the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir. The registration process for the two-month Amarnath Yatra started last month. The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to start on July 1 from the twin tracks -- the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in the Anantnag district and the 14-kilometre shorter but steeper Baltal route in the Ganderbal district.

    CISCE results: Pass percentage in Class 10 at 98.94 pc, Class 12 at 96.93 pc

    The CISCE on Sunday declared the Class 10 and Class 12 results with 98.94 per cent and 96.93 per cent of students, respectively, clearing the board examinations. Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) Secretary Gerry Arathoon said the Class 10 (ICSE) examination was conducted in 63 written subjects of which 21 were Indian, 14 foreign and two classical languages.
    "The Class 12 (ISC) examination was conducted in 47 written subjects of which 12 were Indian languages and three were foreign languages and one classical language," he said.

    The body of a CBSE Class 12 student, who went missing after being placed in the compartment category in two subjects in the board examination, was recovered from a drain in Delhi's Aman Vihar area, police said on Sunday.
    The victim went missing from her home around 3.30 pm on Friday after the CBSE examination results were declared, they said. Her father had informed the police that the girl was depressed after being placed in the compartment category in two subjects and left a suicide note before running away from home, a senior officer said.

    Man held for raping minor girl on pretext of marriage in UP's Ballia

    A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man here on the pretext of marriage, police said on Sunday. On May 6, the girl, a resident of Bihar, had gone to her maternal grandmother’s house in a village under Bairia police station area to attend a function, SHO Dharamveer Singh said. The same day, accused Mukesh Kumar (22), a resident of the same village, raped her on the pretext of marriage, he said. The accused was arrested on Saturday, he said. An FIR under relevant sections of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against him and he has been sent to jail on judicial custody, the SHO said.
