Ahead of Bihar Assembly Election 2025, Bhagirath Manjhi, son of Dashrath Manjhi – the ‘Mountain Man’ of Bihar, joined Congress party. Alongside, former Janata Dal (United) MP Ali Anwar also joined the party on Tuesday. In a press conference held today, Congress leaders welcomed Manjhi, Anwar and former AAP leader Nishant Anand in to the party. Anand fought election from Gurugram in Lok Sabha elections 2024, he was also a spokesperson of AAP.
Speculations of Bhagirath Manjhi joining the Congress were being made since January 18, after he honoured by Rahul Gandhi in Patna.

Congress lauds joining of new members
Bihar Congress chairman Akhilesh Prasad Singh welcomed all new members in the party. His statement was shared by Congress' official X handle. Singh said, "Ali Anwar ji has been our old friend and has also served as a Rajya Sabha MP. He has also continuously fought for the Pasmanda community in Bihar for more than three decades. Jagdish Prasad ji is always ready to serve people. If any poor person from Bihar comes to Delhi, he always helps them."
He further expressed happiness over Bhagirath Manjhi's decision to join Congress and said, "I am very happy that today Dashrath Manjhi's son Bhagirath Manjhi ji is also joining the Congress Party. I welcome everyone to the party. I hope that the arrival of all these people will strengthen the Congress party and the personalities of these people will benefit in the upcoming elections in Bihar."
