Karnataka govt cuts fuel prices

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday announced the decision of the coalition government to cut prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre. The development comes in view of the political pressure being built against the chief minister after the fuel prices were slashed by Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal governments.

Taxes on fuel was cut by Rs 2 by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, while by Re 1 by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing an event in Karnataka, the chief minister said, “today, this coalition government has decided to reduce both petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre.”

The prices of fuel have been rising since August 16 and have created a political storm.

The Opposition, on various occasions, has launched a scathing attack against the Narendra Modi government, which has cited international factors for it.
