A devastating accident occurred on the Samruddhi Expressway near Kadwanchi village in Maharashtra’s Jalna district, resulting in the deaths of eight people and leaving six to seven others critically injured. Among the deceased were six women and one man, all of whom were reportedly labourers travelling for work.
The incident took place when a pickup carrying the laborers was hit by a speeding truck. The collision was so severe that the pickup was completely damaged, killing all seven passengers instantly. Local residents immediately alerted the police and emergency services.
Reckless driving blamed for accident
Police arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. The injured were rushed to Jalna District General Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by speeding and negligent driving, sparking grief and anger across the local community.
Authorities have informed the families of the deceased about the incident. The bodies will be handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, the injured continue to receive medical care at the hospital.
CM Fadnavis expresses anguish
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the incident. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.
“The incident in which 8 people lost their lives in an accident on the Jalna-Nagpur highway is extremely tragic. I pay heartfelt tribute to them. We share in the grief of their families.Those who were injured in this incident have been immediately admitted to the hospital, and the local administration is coordinating efforts. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are personally present at the scene. I pray at the feet of God that the condition of the injured improves soon,” Fadnavis posted on X.
“The state government will provide financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees to the heirs of the deceased in this accident,” he added.
MLA assures government assistance
Jalna MLA Arjun Khotkar visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured and assured the families of the deceased that they would receive all possible government assistance. (Reported by Vijay Sali)
