This year, the Chaturthi is beginning on September 9 and will go up to September 18, that is Anant Chaturdashi.The Ganpati festival is celebrated in India with much fun and fair, people worship Ganesh ji and fast to please the God in various ways mentioned in the Shastras.Pooja must be started only after performing ablutions.Begin the pooja by reciting “Om Shri Ganeshya Namah”Follow this by repeating “Om” thrice. Now take a sip of Ganga jal and invoke the god to purify you by repeating Om Shri Ganeshya Namah thrice and wash hands now the puja can begin.Sprinkle rice grains and flowers on the Ganesha idol and chant "Om Shri Ganeshya Namah Asanam Samarpayami"Next wash the feet of the idol with rice and sandal water and chant "Om Shri Ganeshya Namah Padyam Samarpayami"Then wash the hands of the idol with sandal water with rice and flowers and chant "Om Shri Ganeshya Namah Samarpayami"Now offer the idol water to drink, thrice, while chanting "Om Shri Ganeshya Namah Achmaneeyam Samarpayami"Then the idol has to be bathed with milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. Chant "Om Shri Ganeshya Namah Panchamrita Snanam Samarpayami"After this offer holy water.
