A family of four was found dead in their rented home in Chamundipuram, Mysuru, on Sunday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Mahadevaswamy (45), his wife Anita (38), and their daughters Chandrakala (17) and Dhanalakshmi (15). The bodies were discovered by neighbours after the family's front door had been shut for two days. Police entered the house through an alternate entry point and found one of the victims, presumably the elder daughter, hanging from the ceiling. The others were found lying on the floor.

"The front door was bolted from inside. So we opened the door at the rear and found them dead. Among the four, one was found hanging, which appears to be the elder daughter. Others died sitting on the floor," a police officer said, as quoted by the news agency PTI.

The police believe that the deaths may have occurred 48 hours earlier. They are investigating the possibility of a suicide pact, but no firm conclusions have been reached yet.

Mahadevaswamy was a vegetable vendor in the nearby area of Bandipalya. The family had been living in the rented house for the past two months.

The police are still trying to piece together the events leading up to the deaths. They are also interviewing the neighbors and anyone else who may have known the family.
