The movie was based on the true story. The veteran actress was not the first choice for the role but after many actresses refused to star in the film, the opportunity landed on Shabana’s lap. The lady won her first National Film Awards for the film.
It is one of the popular movies. Along with Shabana, it also featured Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rohini Hattangadi, Smita Patil and Raj Kiran in pivotal roles.
Shabana won National Film Award for her role in Mrinal Sen’s Khandhar. Along with Shabana, the movie also featured Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapoor in pivotal roles. The movie was based on Bengali short story, Telenapota Abishkar.
The 1984 film was based on Bengali story Paari and featured Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri along with Shabana.
The 1999 film was inspired by the life of Santokben Jadeja. The film was directed by Vinay Shukla and Shabana won her another National Film Award for the film.
