New Delhi, Oct 30: Nokia has said its high-end Lumia 820 and 920 phones, which operate on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 software, will reach operators and retail outlets this week in countries like France and Britain, and later in Russia and Germany as well as other select markets including India.
Although the company has not mentioned a specific date about when the smartphone will be available to Indian consumers, it is likely that it will reach Indian consumers around Diwali.
The success of both these devices means a lot for the Finnish handset maker as it tries to claw back the lost ground in terms of sales. Analysts estimate Nokia's current global smartphone market share to be some 4 per cent — down from 14 per cent a year ago.
Stephen Elop, CEO of the Finnish phone maker hopes that current launch of Windows Phone 8 will bring back the company into the smartphone race. However, it will be interesting to see how Lumia 920 launch will turn out for the handset maker due to large number of choices available to consumers. But one thing is for sure, consumers will not forego iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III purchases, for Lumia 920.

Lumia 920 specifications: It comes with 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display, wireless charging support and 2000 mAh battery. It is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU with 1 GB RAM, 32 GB space and 7 GB storage in the cloud with SkyDrive for users. The device weighs 185 grams and is 10.7 millimeters thick. The Lumia 920 also comes with 8.7-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and Nokia's Pureview technology. It has NFC, integrated wireless charging, as well as “Super Sensitive Touch,” which will let users handle their smartphones even while wearing gloves.
One of the most interesting features of the Lumia 920's (and 820's) camera is Nokia's City Lens feature, which is an augmented reality app that allows people to view nearby points of interests by marking them on the screen when they view the area through their phone's camera.
Lumia 820 specifications: It's a mid-range Windows Phone 8 smartphone that is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor. It has 4.3-inch Clearblack display, 8GB of internal storage and an 8-megapixel PureView branded camera. It supports wireless charging, has 1GB RAM 8GB space (expandable upto 32 GB) and 7 GB in SkyDrive.
