On Friday, Canada declared a state of emergency in Ontario province allowing the state to impose $100,000 fines and up to one year in jail as punishments against people who continue to illegally block roads, bridges, walkways and other critical infrastructure.
A joint statement from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said, "The agitation by the AIMTC stands withdrawn immediately."
The strike has been called the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), which calls itself the apex body of transporters in the country, and supported by other transport organisation.
The ongoing strike across southern states is likely to result in rise in prices of essential commodities as they have threatened to intensify their protest against the steep hike third-party motor insurance rates.
