The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) is conducting the counting of votes for elections to the 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations in the state for which the polling was held on Wednesday. One of the municipal corporation where the polling was held was Karimnagar. As per the state poll body, the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has 66 wards. In previous elections held in 2020, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) back then, had won in Karimnagar, winning 33 seats. And TRS leader Sunil Rao Yadagiri was elected as the mayor of Karimnagar. The TRS was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had won 13 seats. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had won six seats, while eight independent candidates had also won.
Meanwhile, the polling for the local body elections in Telangana was held on Wednesday. The polling was conducted on 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), consisting of 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, from 7 am to 5 pm. It had 2,996 wards (414 in corporations and 2,582 in municipalities), and around 52.43 lakh registered voters were eligible to participate and exercise their franchaise in these elections, as per the Telanagana State Election Commission. These elections were being seen as a test of popularity for ruling Congress, and the opposition BJP and the BRS.
