Allahabad, March 6: Giving a lie to the hollow claims of Akhilesh Yadav's government of taking strict action against the killers of CO Zia ul Haq and village pradhan Nanhe Yadav, the two accused Guddu Singh and Rajiv Singh were seen openly walking and smoking inside the Hathigavan police station premises on Tuesday, reports a local Hindi daily.

The Station Officer of Hathigavan police station Manoj Shukla was seen giving Raja Bhaiya's men a royal treatment.  Shukla was later suspended in the evening on charge of fleeing when the CO was being murdered.

On Tuesday, when the forensic team arrived for investigations, the SO of Hathigavan was seen in an active mode, with a  pistol openly displayed behind his belt at the back, and trying to show  himself off as a Dabangg-style policeman.  The same SO had fled into the fields, when his senior Circle Officer Zia ul Haq was being gunned down by Raja Bhaiya's men.

Nothing moves in police and bureaucratic circles in Kunda without Raja Bhaiya's knowledge, and Shukla is considered as one of his prized policemen.

The most sordid aspect of the probe is that even four days after the CO's murder, his pistol and cellphone are yet to be recovered by police. Special Task Force and Special Operations Group have been deployed to hunt for these two items, which have gone missing.

UP police is using mobile surveillance to trace the missing cellphone, but all efforts have so far come to a nought.

Meanwhile, Parveen Azad, the widow of Zia ul Haq has requested that the doctors who prepared the post mortem report of her husband be sent to her to explain the circumstances leading to his murder.

Reports said, Zia ul Haq was badly beaten up by the goons before he was shot. In all, 12 wounds have been found on his body, including two bullet wounds. There were wounds on both his legs, neck and head. Most of the wounds appeared to have been caused by iron rods and wooden sticks.

Doctors who have prepared the post mortem report said the police official was beaten up brutally and then shot in the chest.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi may visit the slain policeman's widow in Juafar village in Deoria, a local party leader Siraj Mehdi said.

State government employees in Deoria  have donated a day's salary for the policeman's widow, and the amount of Rs 3,27,500 was handed over to the DM of Bahraich by a former ADM Nebu Lal.
