Siwan, Oct 8: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar are slated to campaign for their respective candidates in the Daraunda assembly by-election to be held on October 13.

Supported by former MPs Prabhu Nath Singh and jailed party leader Mohammed Shahabuddin, the RJD nominee Parameshwar Singh faces  ruling JD(U) candidate Kavita Kumari, wife of local heavyweight Ajay Singh, with Congress candidate Kalika Sharan Singh and CPI-ML (Liberation) candidate Jainath Yadav forming a quartet.

The bypoll was necessitated after the death of JD(U) MLA Jagmato Devi.

Lalu Prasad will camp in the constituency on Sunday and Monday, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will campaign on October 11, the last day of campaign. On the same day, Nitish Kumar will flag off Advani's Rath Yatra from Jaya Prakash Narayan's birthplace Sitabdiara.

Daraunda constituency was carved out from Raghunathpur assembly segment, once considered a stronghold of Congress, where its senior leader Vijay Shankar Dubey won four times in 1980, 1985, 1990 and 2000. Vikram Kuer, now BJP MLA from Raghunathpur, won the seat on RJD ticket in 1995.
