    Relief to CM Siddaramaiah: Karnataka HC dismisses petition seeking transfer of MUDA case probe to CBI

    In a relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna seeking a direction to transfer investigation into the MUDA site allotment case to the CBI. Siddaramaiah is facing allegations of illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife Parvathi B M by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

    SC refuses to entertain PIL of former Army officer on 1999 Kargil war

    The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a PIL filed by a former Army officer alleging lapses on the part of Army in acting on information with regard to Pakistan’s incursions before the 1999 Kargil war. "The judiciary normally does not go into the matter of national defence…what happened in 1999 in the war is the internal matter relating to executive decision," a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar said.

    Demolition of property in Sambhal: SC asks petitioner to approach jurisdictional HC

    The Supreme Court on Friday asked a petitioner, who was seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Sambhal authorities for allegedly violating its verdict on demolition of properties, to approach the jurisdictional high court. "File it before the high court," a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K Vinod Chandran told the counsel appearing for petitioner Mohammed Ghayoor.

    Woman who accused Badoli of rape booked for extortion; cancellation report in case filed in HP

    Six people, including a woman who had accused Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli and singer Rocky Mittal of rape, have been booked for extortion and criminal intimidation, police said on Friday. In a related development, the Himachal Pradesh police filed a cancellation report in a court in the alleged gangrape case against Badoli and Mittal.

    RBI under new Governor cuts interest rate for first time in 5 years

    Home, auto and other loans are likely to see a drop in interest rates after the Reserve Bank of India under a new Governor cut the key benchmark rate on Friday for the first time in almost five years to spur a sluggish economy. The Monetary Policy Committee, headed by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, slashed the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent.

    This was the first reduction since May 2020 and the first revision after two-and-a-half years.

    Fire breaks out in Delhi slum, brought under control

    A fire broke out in a slum cluster in Delhi's Rohini area, engulfing about 20 huts and a scrap godown, early on Friday, a Delhi Fire Services official said. There were no reports of any casualties. "The blaze erupted around 6:23 am and engulfed about 20 huts and a scrap godown spread across a 2,000-square yard-plot," the official said.

    1984 anti-Sikh riots: Delhi court defers verdict in murder case against Sajjan Kumar

    A Delhi court on Friday deferred to February 12 its verdict in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots murder case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who was scheduled to pass the order on Friday, deferred the pronouncement. The case pertains to the killing of two persons in Saraswati Vihar area here during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

    Pilgrim surge at Mahakumbh: Physical classes suspended in Prayagraj secondary schools till Feb 12

    In view of the massive influx of devotees ahead of Maghi Purnima, all secondary schools of all boards in Prayagraj will suspend physical classes from February 7 to February 12 and shift to online learning, officials said. According to an order issued by the District Magistrate of Prayagraj to the District Inspector of Schools, the decision was taken considering the inconvenience students might face in commuting during this period.
