Iftar or phalahar? War of words ensues after Giriraj Singh's remark

The point to be noted here is the JDU and BJP leaders have been missing from each other's Iftar gatherings.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh, on Tuesday, targetted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and LJP chief and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan for holding an iftar party and posing a picture to display their love for holy month of Ramadan. But this was just a warcry.

"Why we lag behind in our religion and rituals and lead in display for other," the BJP leader tweeted, saying the picture would have been beautiful had they organised "phalahar on Navratra".

To this end, the first response came from Nitish Kumar who said Giriraj Singh was vouching for some space in the newspapers and nothing else.

"Giriraj Singh makes such remarks deliberately, so that you (media) make news out of it," Nitish Kumar said in response to the minister's tweet.

Singh had posted the comment along with a picture of Nitish Kumar, Paswan, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi holding each other's hands at the iftar here on Monday.

JD-U spokesperson Sanjay Singh also did not like Giriraj Singh's remark and reacted demanding action against the Begusarai MP.

"It is high time BJP should take Giriraj Singh's statements seriously and act against him as PM Narendra Modi had recently stated that he would check and control all such leaders of his party who speak the language of hate," the Janata Dal-United leader said.

As the day was nearing to an end, Sushil Kumar Modi also sprang to action and said theirs was a party that did both -- Iftar and phalahar.

"Hum phalahar aur Iftar donon kartey hain," he told a Hindi news channel.

Nitish's JD-U and Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party are allies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Giriraj Singh, notorious for ordering critics of the BJP to go to Pakistan, is the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries in PM Modi's new cabinet. He won the election from Begusarai in Bihar over a strong Kanhaiya Kumar.

Last week, Nitish Kumar said his JDU would not join Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government because one cabinet spot was unacceptable to him.

Nitish Kumar even went public with his resentment.

The point to be noted here is the JDU and BJP leaders have been missing from each other's Iftar gatherings.
