Sadananda Gowda, former Karnataka chief minister, announces retirement from electoral politics

DV Sadananda Gowda, who is currently an MP from Bengaluru North, is one of the prominent Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Karnataka. He has been CM of the state for around one year and held several portfolios in the Modi Cabinet before resining in 2021.

Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday announced his retirement from electoral politics. Sadananda Gowda, while speaking to reporters in Hassan, said that he will no longer contest elections in the future. 

Gowda, who is the sitting MP from Bengaluru North, announced his retirement after he reportedly got clarification from the party leadership about his future role. According to reports, the party leadership decided not to give a ticket to Gowda in the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2024.

Sadananda Gowda resigned as Union Minister

Two years ago in July, then Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Gowda resigned from the Union Council of Ministers. 

Besides being the chemicals and fertilizers minister in the Narendra Modi government, Gowda had also held portfolios like Railways, Law, Statistics and Programme Implementation.

He was the 14th Karnataka chief minister from August 4, 2011, to July 11, 2012.
