Sarkar, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer, which had made a big release yesterday (November 6,2018) is rightly the most talked about movie of the moment. The highly anticipated film marked an arrival that did complete justice to the huge hype surrounding it. Released in over 3400 screens across the world, Sarkar has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in two days of its release.
Not just in Tamil Nadu, Sarakar also made a scintillating entry to the theatres in Kerala as well. It is wuite known to all that Vijay enjoys a solid fan base in Kerala and Sarkar too received a fabulous reception. Now, according to the reports that have been doing the rounds, Sarkar has made a record-breaking opening Kerala as well.
A source close to director AR Murugadoss was quoted saying to Indian Express that the movie has surpassed the day 1 collection of ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ in Tamil Nadu. “Sarkar surpassed the day one collection of Baahubali 2 in the state. And we’re expecting Sarkar to be the highest Tamil grosser,” he said.
Breaking : #Sarkar Day2 Chennai city gross is 2.32 CR.. Hardly any drop from its opening day 2.37 CR.. 2-days total Chennai gross is 4.69 CR.. In a league of its own, with back to back 2 CR+ days.. Speechless! #ThalapathyKingOfBoxOffice— Kaushik LM (@LMKMovieManiac) November 7, 2018
Trade sources anticipate the Sun Pictures production to vault over the Rs 100 crore gross mark in Tamil Nadu at the end of its extended six-day opening weekend (6-11 November). The weekdays from 12 November will be crucial for the film's final fate at the ticket window in the state. The film has received decent to average reviews from both critics and the general populace.
If you take the cumulative total of other Indian states into account, the all-India gross of Sarkar stands at a whopping Rs 47.85 crore. It has clearly outperformed 2018's previous highest-grossing opener, Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju which hauled in Rs 34.75 crore on opening day. While Sanju opened in 4000 screens in India alone on a working day, Sarkar has landed in 3400+ screens worldwide on a festival day. The Rs 47.85 crore total for Sarkar has eclipsed Baahubali: The Beginning to become the third best opening for a south Indian film after Baahubali 2 (all languages combined) and Kabali.
Popular Tamil producers like SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures, RD Raja of 24 AM Studios and Dhananjayan of BOFTA Media Works took to their social media pages and showered praise on Vijay and expressed happiness to see the scale and business of Tamil films widen through Sarkar.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sarkar stars Vijay in the lead role and also features Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Yogi Babu and Radha Ravi among others. This is the third time when Murugadoss and Vijay have come together for a project.
