Hollywood actor Cameron Diaz has been notoriously shy about her relationship with baseball star Alex 'A-Rod' Rodriguez, going to great lengths to avoid being photographed with him.
But she wasn't able to fox British photographers on a night out in London - and was spied going back to her hotel with a mystery man who was definitely not the Yankees slugger in the early hours of Tuesday morning, reports The Daily Mail, London.
Cameron is thought to have been dating Alex for eight months and has done her best to keep their relationship quiet and out of the media spotlight.
But last night, she was without her beau as she spent the evening at Morton's private members' club in Mayfair having dinner and drinks with a group of friends.
The casually dressed star arrived at around 9pm wearing a camel coat, jeans and beaten-up looking tan leather boots - not exactly conforming with the high-end nightspot's strict dress code, which specifies 'elegant attire and high heels encouraged in the evenings'.
The Hollywood beauty then left just before the club closed at 3am with a beaming smile and the mystery male companion. The pair then headed off in a car together to Cameron's hotel.
But in a bid not to be pictured together, the handsome-looking man got out of the car about 200 yards away and walked down the road very slowly.
Cameron was dropped off at the door, but found that the hotel was locked, and by the time she'd spent a couple of minutes knocking on the door and ringing the bell to be let in, her gentleman friend had arrived and joined her on the doorstep. When the concierge was eventually roused to open the door, the pair were seen going in together.
Cameron's ploy to fool waiting photographers came just a day after a man obsessed with her tried to attack Rodriguez in the middle of a game his team were playing against the Texas Rangers.
Security guards intercepted Grim LeRogue and brought him to the ground before he could reach Rodriguez, then discovered he was carrying a photograph of the There's Something About Mary star which said: 'We will be together soon.'
LeRogue also allegedly had a photograph of A-Rod on which he had scrawled an X across his face and drawn a gun pointed at his head.
'You have to go bud, you've ruined too many of our white queens,' was also written on the image.
A police source said the 33-year-old crazed Cameron fan was rambling throughout his time in custody, adding: 'He was absolutely out of his f****** mind...He thought by going out and choking A-Rod he'd be a hero to her.'Rodriguez has previously been linked with Madonna and Kate Hudson.
LeRogue, who changed his name officially from Joe Rogan, also carried a photograph of terrorist mastermind Osama Bin Laden, calling him his 'master' and vowing: 'I will serve you.'He was charged with assault and interfering with a sporting event and was taken to hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Cameron meanwhile is currently in the UK on a break having finished filming her latest movie, Bad Teacher, in which she stars with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
Cameron plays Elizabeth Halsey, a foul-mouthed, junior high teacher who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague - played by Timberlake.
This move pits her against a well-loved teacher which leads to high jinx and chaos in the upcoming comedy, which comes next April. Before that, she stars in The Green Hornet, the new Michel Gondry movie based on the comic book superhero of the same name. That opens in cinemas on 14 January.
