The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a landslide victory in the Barnala Municipal Corporation Elections 2026, winning 36 out of the total 50 wards and securing a dominant majority in the civic body.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished second with 7 wards, while Independent candidates won 5 seats. Congress could manage only 2 wards, whereas the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) failed to win a single seat in the corporation polls.
The Barnala civic polls were closely watched as part of the larger Punjab municipal elections, being seen as an important political test ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Counting was held amid tight security arrangements across the state.
