IndiGo flight cancellation: Govt orders high-level inquiry, grants certain exemptions from FDTL norm
IndiGo flight cancellation: Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced a high-level inquiry to identify the causes and assign accountability for the disturbances.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday (December 5) pointed to IndiGo’s mismanagement of its crew in relation to the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) regulations issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as the primary cause of severe delays and congestion at major airports nationwide. He explained that while other airlines like Air India and SpiceJet adapted smoothly to the FDTL changes introduced on November 1, IndiGo failed to manage its crew schedules effectively. To restore normalcy, the ministry granted IndiGo certain exemptions from the FDTL norms. Naidu also announced the formation of a committee to investigate the disruptions and identify those responsible, emphasising that strict action will be taken against any negligence. The ministry’s top priority remains to normalise operations and support affected passengers, while ensuring that safety standards are not compromised.

This is failure on both parts of DGCA, Indigo airline: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram
On IndiGo flight cancellations, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram says, "DGCA had earlier given a directive to airlines to enforce a mandatory rest period for flying crew. And when they gave that directive, they should have done an impact assessment. The airline concerned, particularly IndiGo, also knew about the directive well in advance. So this is a failure on both parts of the DGCA and the airline in not complying with the directive that was issued. Why did they not enforce this directive well in time? So there are many questions which need to be answered. So, merely withdrawing the directive and letting the airline go back to the status quo, where they can deploy their personnel under the old regime, does not solve the problem. The answers have to come from the DGCA, from the minister, and from the airline."
