Among those who are retiring from the Rajya Sabha are former Prime Minister and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) leader HD Deve Gowda; Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge (both from Karnataka); Union ministers Ravneet Singh Bittu (Rajasthan) and George Kurian (Madhya Pradesh).

The Election Commission on Friday announced that voting for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states will be held on June 18, and the results will be declared on the same day at 5 pm. The EC said the elections for the Rajya Sabha seats will be held in 10 states where the incumbents are retiring on different dates beginning June 21 and ending July 19. The Rajya Sabha elections will be held in four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka; three seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan; two seats in Jharkhand; and one seat each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

Other retiring members include Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, and Parimal Nathwani (all from Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party); Sana Satish of the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh; Bharatiya Janata Party's Nabam Rebia in Arunachal Pradesh; BJP's Rambhai Mokariya, Ramilaben Bara, and Narhari Amin in Gujarat; Deepak Prakash of BJP in Jharkhand; BJP's K Narayan and Iranna B Kadadi in Karnataka; BJP's Sumer Singh Solanki in Madhya Pradesh; BJP's Leishemba Sanajaoba in Manipur; National People's Party's Wanweiroy Kharlukhi in Meghalaya; Mizo National Front's K Vanlalvena in Mizoram; BJP's Rajendra Gehlot; and Congress leader Neeraj Dangi in Rajasthan.

The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 16 seats out of 24. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 12 members, while its alliance partners National People's Party (NPP), Janata Dal Secular (JDS), Mizo National Front (MNF), and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have one seat each. The INDIA bloc has five members, including four from Congress and one from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Former Jharkhand CM and JMM leader Shibu Soren died in August last year, and the seat has been lying vacant since then. Meanwhile, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has three members in the Upper House.
What is going to be the likely outcome?
As per our analysis, the NDA will remain at 16 and is likely to win all four seats in Andhra Pradesh, two each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and one each in Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. The BJP is also likely to sweep all four seats in Gujarat. The Congress party may win three seats in Karnataka and one each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The JMM-Congress alliance is all set to win both seats in Jharkhand, while the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) will win the lone seat in Mizoram.
Bypolls for two seats in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu on June 18
Additionally, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu will hold bypolls for two vacant seats on June 18. The seat in Maharashtra was vacated by the resignation of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sunetra Ajit Pawar on May 6, after she won the by-poll for the Baramati Assembly seat in Maharashtra that was vacated upon the death of her husband, Ajit Pawar, in a plane crash in January. One seat in Tamil Nadu was vacated by the resignation of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) rebel leader C Ve Shanmugam on May 7 as he decided to retain his Mailam Assembly seat. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is likely to win this seat and open its account in Parliament.
