During his visit to Chhattisgarh's Bijapur on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a pair of slippers to a tribal woman to launch the Charan-Paduka (footwear) Scheme. The scheme aims to provide footwear to tendu leaves (tendu patta) collectors to facilitate smooth movement in the forest area.

As soon as the woman named Ratni Bai reached the stage where all the dignitaries were present, PM Modi walked up to her with the footwear in his hands. He then bent down to assist the woman in wearing the slippers triggering a loud applause from the crowd present there. Seemingly happy over the PM's gesture, the woman thanked him with a broad smile and then stepped down from the stage.

PM Modi inaugurated a slew of projects during his visit to the naxal-affected district of Chhattisgarh, including the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Speaking during the event, PM Modi said the BJP government is committed to help the poor and downtrodden.

"Your government at the centre is committed to dreams and aspirations of people," he said.

" If Bijapur can see development in 100 days then why can't the other districts witness the same? I came here to assure you that with all the development projects now Bijapur district will no longer be know as a backward district," PM Modi added.
