Budgam, Nagrota Bypoll Election Results: BJP candidate Devyani Rana has won the Nagrota Assembly constituency by-election, securing around 42,350 votes and defeating Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party president Harsh Dev Singh.

The bypolls in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies concluded with contrasting outcomes and voter turnouts. In Budgam, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi secured victory over National Conference (NC) nominee Aga Syed Mehmood by a margin of 4,478 votes, polling 21,576 votes in total. The seat, previously held by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, witnessed a voter turnout of just over 50 per cent, slightly lower than last year’s 52.27 percent. The by-election was held after Abdullah vacated Budgam following his win from his family bastion, Ganderbal. Seventeen candidates contested the seat, but the main fight remained between the two Shia contenders from the PDP and NC. In Nagrota, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Devyani Rana, daughter of late BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana, won the by-election with 42,350 votes, defeating Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leader Harsh Dev Singh. The constituency recorded an enthusiastic turnout of over 75 per cent, reflecting strong public participation. The bypoll was held to fill the vacancy created by the demise of Devender Singh Rana. Devyani’s victory not only retains the seat for the BJP but also reaffirms the party’s influence in the Jammu region.
