 The Surat constituency is considered one of the top 10 safest seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Lok Sabha. Since 1989, the people of Surat have consistently elected BJP candidates to the Lok Sabha. In the 2022 Assembly elections as well, the saffron flag flew high over 12 seats in Surat city and 4 seats in rural Surat.

In the previous Surat Municipal Corporation elections, the BJP had won 93 seats and the AAP won 27 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress had failed to open its account.

The ruling BJP has continued to maintain lead in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections. As per the latest trends, the saffron party has won or taken lead on as many as eight seats.

As per the latest trends, the BJP has won two seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation, while the Congress has also bagged two seats. Others have also won two seats.

The security has been tightened across Gujarat, including Surat, as the State Election Commission (SEC) counts the votes for the local body elections in the state. 

“Today, security arrangements have been made at two locations within the city of Ahmedabad- Gujarat College and ND Engineering College. Police personnel have been deployed, and a three-tier security cordon has been established here. The Election Commission is also keeping a close watch on the situation, and those eligible to vote have promptly completed the necessary formalities inside the premises,” Ahmedabad Joint CP Niraj Badgujar told news agency PTI.

According to the State Election Commission (SEC) of Gujarat, the Surat Municipal Corporation recorded a voter turnout of 59.21 per cent.
