Gujarat polls: Congress releases first list of 77 candidates

The development comes close on the heels of grand old party and Hardik Patel led-Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) announcing that they have reached an agreement over the issue of granting reservation to Patels.

The Congress party today releases the first of 77 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.

Senior leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhwadia were among those given tickets.

While Gohil will contest from Mandvi, Indranil Rajyaguru has been pitted against Chief Minister Vijay Rupani from Rajkot West. Modhvadiya will contest from Porbandar.

The grand old party has also given to Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener and leader Lalit Vasoya. He will contest from Dhoraji seat. 

The party has not given ticket to PAAS leader Manoj Panara from Morbi, instead fielded its own leader Brijesh Merja from here.

Former Central minister Dr Tushar Chaudhary will contest from Mahua.

While polling for 89 constituencies will be held on December 9, remaining 93 seats will go to polls on December 14.

The last date for filing nominations for the first phase is November 21.

The ruling BJP has so far announced 106 candidates out of total 182 seats, by releasing two lists so far.

Counting of votes will take place on December 18.
