New Delhi:

Every year, many bank customers wonder whether there will be a bank holiday on Makar Sankranti. However, confusion has grown this time, as people are unsure whether the festival will fall on January 14 or January 15. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announces a month-wise bank holiday calendar and a city-wise list of holidays. As per the list of bank holidays for January issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Makar Sankranti is marked on both January 14 and January 15. While banking services will be affected only in a few selected states on January 14, including Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, they will be impacted in other states on January 15, 2026.

At other banks that are not closed on Makar Sankranti, daily operations will continue as usual. Despite some states experiencing bank closures, customers can continue to use digital services, including UPI, net banking, mobile banking, ATMs, and online transactions, which will continue to function normally.

Moreover, other tasks, such as cash withdrawals, money transfers, and bill payments, can be completed through digital channels.
