Dearness Allowance: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay hikes DA by 2% for state govt employees, teachers

According to a release, the chief minister has pledged to take measures to formulate and implement various welfare schemes for the people.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced a 2 per cent hike in Dearness Allowances (DA) for government employees and teachers. According to an official release, the new DA will be effective from January 1, 2026. With the latest revision, the allowance has been increased to 60 per cent from 58 per cent. The DA hike will result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 1,230 crore for the state government. 

"Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Joseph Vijay announces that the dearness allowance, currently at 58 per cent for government officials and teachers, will be increased to 60 per cent effective from 01.01.2026," a post by Tamil Nadu CMO on X reads.

Govt to allocate additional funds

According to a release, the government would allocate the required additional funds, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of government officials, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners.

The release further said that the newly appointed chief minister has pledged to take measures to formulate and implement various welfare schemes for the people.

It added that government officials and teachers play a pivotal role in designing various schemes and implementing them successfully.

Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai

Meanwhile, CM Vijay announced that women beneficiaries covered under the 'Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai' will get the May instalment of Rs 1000 soon.

The amount, part of the scheme implemented by the previous DMK regime and named after late party stalwart M Karunanidhi, will be deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, a government release quoting Vijay said.

"The government needs time to restructure the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, under which Rs 1,000 is given to women. CM Joseph Vijay has directed that the Rs 1000 May month instalment under the scheme will be directly deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries soon," it added.

As part of its poll promises ahead of the April 23 elections, Vijay's TVK had promised Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women aged below 60 years.
