Israel slammed the Gaza Strip with airstrikes that included pulverizing a high-rise that housed The Associated Press and other media.
Turmoil from the battle between Israel and Hamas spilled over into the West Bank on Friday, sparking the most widespread Palestinian protests in years as hundreds of young demonstrators in multiple towns clashed with Israeli troops, who shot and killed at least 11 people.
Israel on Thursday said it was massing troops along the Gaza frontier and calling up 9,000 reservists ahead of a possible ground invasion of the Hamas-ruled territory.
Previous fighting between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers, including a devastating 2014 war, was largely confined to the impoverished and blockaded Palestinian territory and Israeli communities on the frontier.
The latest fighting brought life in much of Israel to a standstill. Schools remained closed in Israeli communities near the Gaza border and restrictions on public gatherings continued as rockets rained down.
The attack caused no damage or injuries, it was a significant escalation and set the stage for a tough Israeli reprisal.
Paris: Sixty six Nobel laureates and 203 European parliamentarians have sought the release of people caught in the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.“There are two ways to stop rockets from the besieged (Gaza) enclave.
