The Danish driver signed a multi-year contract and will drive the new Haas car for the first time on Friday in F1's test in Bahrain. Reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi will test the car Thursday on afternoon.
The relationship between Haas F1 and its Russian sponsor and driver became untenable following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the owner of the United States-based Formula One team said.
Haas' driving lineup includes Nikita Mazepin, the only Russian driver on the Formula One grid this season. Its decision to drop the sponsor came a day after four-time champion Sebastian Vettel said he would not race at the Russian Grand Prix in September because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Haas will run just one car Sunday in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for Mick Schumacher as reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi was not eligible to replace Mazepin.
Mazepin posted an apology on Twitter for his "recent actions in terms of my own inappropriate behaviour and the fact that it was posted onto social media."
Schumacher (21), a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, leads the Formula 2 title race heading into the final round of the season.
The pair have struggled in their fourth season together and scored only three points between them in 11 races so far.
