In the previous municipal elections held in 2020, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the leading party in Nizamabad, winning 28 seats. The BJP was followed by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which secured 16 seats. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), then known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 13 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress managed to win 2 seats, and 1 seat was secured by an independent candidate.
The polling for the local body elections in Telangana was held on Wednesday. The polling was conducted on 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), consisting of 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, from 7 am to 5 pm. It had 2,996 wards (414 in corporations and 2,582 in municipalities), and around 52.43 lakh registered voters were eligible to participate and exercise their franchaise in these elections, as per the Telanagana State Election Commission. These elections were being seen as a test of popularity for ruling Congress, and the opposition BJP and the BRS.
