Congress candidate Suluva Nagalaxmi wins Ward Number 3 in the Huzurnagar municipality of the Suryapet district. Amid tight security, the counting of votes for the Suryapet district municipality started at 8 am on Friday. On election day in Telangana, a voter turnout of 73.01 per cent was recorded across the state. The local body went to poll on Wednesday along with 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The Suryapet district includes Huzurnagar, Kodad, Neredcherla, Suryapet, Tirumalagiri municipalities. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are the main parties in Kamareddy district municipalities.
A total of 2,996 wards — 414 in municipal corporations and 2,582 in municipalities — went to the polls, the voter turnout recorded 73 per cent. The State Election Commission (SEC) said 73.01 percentage of voting was recorded.
In Huzurnagar municipality, there are 28 wards where AIMIM secured victory with 20 winning seats in 2020. In Kodad municipality, AIMIM scripted victory with winning 25 seats and in Neredcherla municipality, CPM and AIMIM secured 7 seats each out of total 15 seats. In Suryapet municipality election in 2020, there are 48 wards where AIMIM secured victory with winning 24 seats. In Tirumalagiri municipality election in 2020, AIMIM secured victory with winning 11 seats.
