Amid tight security, the counting of votes for the Kamareddy district municipality started at 8 am on Friday. On election day in Telangana, a voter turnout of 73.01 per cent was recorded across the state. The local body went to poll on Wednesday along with 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The Kamareddy district includes Banswada, Bichkunda, Kamareddy and Yellareddy municipalities. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are the main parties in Kamareddy district municipalities.
A total of 2,996 wards — 414 in municipal corporations and 2,582 in municipalities — went to the polls, the voter turnout recorded 73 per cent. The State Election Commission (SEC) said 73.01 percentage of voting was recorded.
In Kamareddy municipality, there are 49 wards where AIMIM secured victory with 23 winning seats in 2020. In Banswada municipality, AIMIM scripted victory with winning 17 seats in 2020 and in Yellareddy municipality, the AIMIM secured 9 seats out of total 12 seats in the last election.
