Dehra Dun, June 20: Ahead of the assembly polls early next year in Uttarakhand, BJP President Nitin Gadkari has held a meeting of the party's core group here, party sources today said.

The details of the meeting held last evening were kept closely guarded with top leaders remaining tight-lipped.  Significantly, the meeting came at a time when Gadkari had already announced that the next assembly elections would be fought under the collective leadership of Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, former Chief ministers B C Khanduri and B S Koshiyari.

“Gadkariji tried to impress upon the state leaders to remain united in view of the anti-incumbency factor,” a top BJP source said.

Gadkari also held a meeting with the state cabinet ministers.

The BJP President, who is on a four-day trip to the state, visited the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines today. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Pokhriyal.  Earlier, Gadkari had visited two other Himalayan shrines of Chardham pilgrimage by paying obeisance to Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj is also on a private visit to the state. Swaraj along with her close friends and family members today visited Corbett National Park. PTI
