Ayodhya Deepotsav 2018 begins today: All you need to know

Ayodhya is all set to witness "Deepotsav", the mega Diwali celebrations Tuesday evening. Here are some interesting facts about the event:

Earthen lamps lightened up on banks of River Saryu in Ayodhya

Ayodhya is all set to witness "Deepotsav", the mega Diwali celebrations tuesday evening. The "Deepotsav" event is being organised by the Uttar Pradesh Government. The event will be attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook will be the chief guest at the event. A big ceremonial gateway has been constructed near the site of the main function. The old temples facing the ghats of the river have been decorated with colourful lighting and lakhs of earthern lamps have been arranged on the steps of the ghats. These earthen lamps will be lighted in the evening, while an attempt will be made to enter into the Guinness Book of Record with the lighting ceremony.

Here are some important points to know about Ayodhya Deepotsav 2018:

1. CM Adityanath has been organising ''Deepotsav'' - a carnival of lights - in Ayodhya on Diwali since becoming Chief Minister last year. 

2. This year, about 3.35 lakh 'diyas' are planned to be lit up which aims to get a place in Guinness Book of Record.

3. A special laser show and water show is also being organised in which Tulsidas will be seen narrating the story of Ramayana on the bank of River Saryu.

4. South Korean First Lady, Kim Jung-sook will be the chief guest at "Deepotsav" event in Ayodhya.

5. A cultural team from South Korea's Busan will perform a traditional dance at a place just next to the site of the Queen Heo Hwang-ok Memorial in Ayodhya. 

6. The site currently has two memorial stones, with the legend of Queen Heo Hwang-ok engraved on them. 

7. It is believed that princess Suriratna of Ayodhya travelled to Korea and married King Kim, who was later known as Queen Heo Hwang-ok in 48 AD.

 
8. S Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook is the first foreign dignitary at Diwali festivities in India.

9. The South Korean First lady will also light the lamp that is around four-and-half feet and is made out of waste materials by the fine arts department of Ram Manohar Lohiya Awadh University. It has designs which showcases Awadhi tradition and culture. 

10. 30-ft statue of Lord Rama has been made by the artists from Maharashtra near the site of "Deepotsav".

11. The First Lady's participation in the Diwali festivity in Ayodhya will represent our close civilisational links as well as the ongoing deepening engagement between our two countries.
