New Delhi, Oct 29: Ever increasing prices of petrol and diesel have led to increasing popularity of cars which offers lower running cost and yet provide all modern comforts. The latest entrant in the field of fuel efficient cars is Tata Motors' Megapixel that can deliver up to 100 kilometres from a litre of fuel by using a unique combination of technology. The company introduced the model at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and said it designed for those who want performance and environment friendly vehicle. Megapixel is a four seater model based on its global range extended electric vehicle (REEV), which has been specially designed for driving in congested and heavy traffic city conditions. The company said the model looks nearer to the production version of this car. India TV Auto takes a look at some important features of the car. The Tata Megapixel delivers up to 900 km with a single tank refill. It is a hybrid car that holds a lithium-ion phosphate battery and an on-board petrol engine generator for recharging on the move. You can charge the car's special battery at home. With a complete electric charge, the engine of this car covers a distance of 100 km. It can attain maximum speed of 110 kmph, which is quite impressive given that it is a small displacement engine.Tata Motors have incorporated its innovative ‘Zero Turn' drive system in Megapixel which the company unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Here's how it works: the electric chassis of Megapixel has four individual electric motors, placed independently at each of the wheel. When you park the vehicle these electric motors changes the direction of the wheels in opposite way. The car also has an unmatched turning radius of 2.8 metres.With Megapixel, Tata Motors will provide a unique wireless induction charging system for the car to charge it without any cords. All one has to do is to park the vehicle over the induction pad for charging to begin. The company claims it will take just 30 minute to charge the vehicle to 80 per cent of its capacity.Given that Megapixel will be presented as a city car at the time of its launch, the model will deliver optimum efficiency to succeed internationally. From outside, it has an aerodynamic and classy design. Its stylish four-door body is streamlined in appearance and has aggressive body lines across the frame. The car also has double sliding doors, which is similar to the ones seen on mini-vans, which will ensure that the passengers can get seated easily despite its small proportions.On the inside, the car will include panoramic roof, leather and rose metal trims and a smartphone docking point. A rear projected dashboard that will be complemented by a joystick controller, similar to the BMW iDrive, will also be present in the car.Other notable features include: 'One Touch' touchscreen command centre, cantilevered seating system for four adults and the innovative 'India Global' design theme are other features that define the interiors of the car.The company has not yet made any announcement regarding the possible launch of the car in the Indian market, but it is likely that the car will be launched in 2015 along with a price tag of Rs 4.0 lakh to 4.5 lakh.The company has also displayed Pixel at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi.
