India registers 2.34 lakh new coronavirus cases, active cases climb to 16 lakh

Multiple states from Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are enforcing stringent restrictions to break the chain of transmission following an unprecedented surge in new confirmed cases of Covid-19. With the central government laying emphasis on vaccination against coronavirus, school examinations across the country have either been postponed or cancelled as a second wave of the pandemic continues to infect tens of thousands each day.
