Adilabad Municipal election results 2026: Congress-BRS in fight as counting underway in district

Counting of votes begins in the Adilabad district in the Telangana Urban Local Body polls. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi party is looking to win the district as counting of votes began at 8 AM at the Adilabad Municipality.

Counting of votes got underway at 8 AM in the Adilabad district as parties vied for power in the Adilabad Municipality. Elections for municipalities, including Adilabad, are part of the 2026 Telangana urban local bodies elections held on 11 February 2026, covering 2,996 wards across 7 corporations and 116 municipalities statewide. The Adilabad municipality went for the polls along with 115 other municipalities, for which the results will be announced on February 13. There are a total of 49 wards in the Adilabad municipality. The last time the Urban local body elections took place in Adilabad, now known as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), then known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), emerged as the single-largest party, as they bagged 24 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came a distant second with wins on 11 wards, while the Indian National Congress (INC) bagged five wards, the same as what the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party secured.

In the last elections, the BJP fielded candidates in 44 wards, while the TRS had candidates in all 49 of them. Congress contested on 46 wards, while the AIMIM fought on 17. YSRCP fielded candidates in six wards, CPI in four and CPIM in two. Talking about the voters in the municipality in 2020, there were a total of 127922 listed voters, out of which 63111 were male and 64805 were female. The municipality witnessed 69.95% of votes with 89482 voters exercising their polling rights. 44367 of the voters were male, while 45115 were female. Jogu Premender was declared elected as the chairperson of the municipality. 

The current Telangana Municipal Election saw 73 per cent of voters exercising their franchise on Wednesday, which passed off well, barring minor skirmishes at a few places. The State Election Commission (SEC) said 73.01 percentage of voting was recorded. "The polling passed off peacefully", DGP B Shivadhar Reddy said.

    Congress leads in Mahabubabad

    Congress has won two Municipalities out of five in Mahabubabad as the party is leading 2-0. Congress won the Maripeda ward with eight wins to BRS' six, with one going to an independent. The Grand Old Party also won the Dornakal Municipality with 11-4 against BRS.

    Congress wins two Municipalities in Mahabubabad

    While the Adilabad results are awaited, Congress would be pleased that it has won two Municipalities in the Mahabubabad district. The grand old party has won the Maripeda Municipality after a tough contest from BRS, while the party also clinched the Dornakal Municipality as it has won 10 of the 15 wards.
