Mahabubnagar is among the 60 wards of the Mahaboobnagar Municipal Corporation. In 2020, BRS won 30 seats, BJP and Congress secured five each, AIMIM won three, and six independents were elected.

Counting of votes began in Mahabubnagar today following polling held on February 11 for urban local body elections across Telangana. The focus in the town is on Ward No. 55 of the Mahabubnagar Municipal Corporation, which is one among its 60 wards. The ward is reserved under the Unreserved (Women) category, and the outcome is being closely tracked as results begin to take shape.

Mahabubnagar's last municipal elections were conducted in 2020, when the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) emerged as the single largest party, securing 30 seats in the corporation. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) won five seats each, while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) secured three seats. Additionally, six independent candidates were elected as corporators, reflecting a diverse political representation in the civic body.
