 “Letting go of players from such a consistent, high-performing squad is never easy, but that’s the challenge that comes with a mega auction. Every player has played a pivotal role in our journey so far. Although we narrowly missed lifting the trophy, we’re immensely proud of what this group has achieved in the first three seasons," Jindal said.

The upcoming mega auction presents an exciting challenge, giving us the chance to shape the next phase of the squad while having a strong core to consider for retentions," Malolan said.

He went on to add, “Over the past three years, I’ve developed a great working relationship with Smriti, as well as the coaching and support staff, and I look forward to continuing that partnership to deliver the success that RCB fans deserve.”

The WPL auction will take place on November 27 in New Delhi. 

When everyone expected Harmanpreet Kaur to be Mumbai Indians' first retention, especially after winning the Women's ODI World Cup, the franchise announced Nat Sciver-Brunt as their frontline choice. The England international was retained for INR 3.5 crore, while Harman will earn INR 2.5 crore. 

UP Warriorz have retained only cricketer in Shreyanka Patil. She was retained for INR 50 lakhs as UP now have INR 14.5 crore to spend in the auction.

Gujarat Giants have retained only two cricketers - Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney. They are retained for INR 3.5 crore and INR 2.5 crore, respectively. They are left with 9 crore to spend in the auction. 

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained Smriti, Richa, Ellyse Perry and Shreyanka. They are left with 6.15 crore to spend the auction.

Delhi Capitals have retained four cricketers for 2.2 crore each adn Niki Prasad for 50 lakhs. They are now left with 5.7 crore to spend in the auction.

Mumbai Indians are left with 5.75 crore in the purse.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of five players, up to three Indian players and two overseas internationals. The retention slabs have been set as follows:

Malolan Rangarajan has now been appointed as the new head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru women. He has been with the franchise for several years.

As Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are set to retain five cricketers, they won't be allowed to use RTM cards in the mega-auction. It also means that the teams will be left with INR 5.75 crore.

We are now just a few minutes away from the official list of WPL retentions and the remaining price of all five teams. 

Well, the second innings of the fourth T20I between India and Australia have begun. Soon after the end of the match, the franchises will release their retention list. Stay tuned, as we are just an hour or so away.

While the reports have confirmed the retained players, none have been able to reveal the retention slab of particular team. For now, let us have a look at the retention slabs:

INR 3.5 crore (Player 1), INR 2.5 crore (Player 2), INR 1.75 crore (Player 3), INR 1 crore (Player 4) and INR 50 lakh (Player 5)

If a franchise opts to retain five players, INR 9.25 crore would be deducted from its 15 crore purse, while for four, the deduction would be INR 8.75 crore; for three, it would be INR 7.75 crore; for two INR 6 crore; and for one INR 3.5 crore.

While the official announcement is yet to be made, it is understood that the WPL auction will take place on November 27.

As per WPL retention rules, each franchise can retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, a maximum of two overseas players, and a maximum of two uncapped Indian players.

If a team wishes to retain five players, the rules state that at least one should be an uncapped Indian player.

The WPL has also decided to allow franchises the use of the Right to Match card option to buy back a player who was part of their squad in WPL 2025.

Sophie Ecclestone, Alana King, Deepti Sharma, Georgia Voll, Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath - UP Warriorz have reportedly released all these players. 

King is among the best bowlers going around in women's cricket right now. Deepti won the player of the tournament in the World Cup 2025 while Sophie Ecclestone is number one bowler in the world. How on earth can they let go of such a massive and talented pool of international players? 

According to reports, Laura Wolvaardt, Deepti Sharma, and Shree Charani are among the World Cup finalists to be released by their respective teams.

Wow!! Franchises have started taking some tough calls and certainly, it has nothing to do with what happened in the ODI World Cup that saw Wolvaardt score centuries in semis and final and Deepti Sharma win the player of the tournament award. 

Not often does a retention announcement go into Day 2. But funny things have happened before. The retention list was submitted by all five teams by 5 PM yesterday. However, it will be officially released today on Star Sports after the fourth T20I between India and Australia. Stay tuned as we bring you some interesting facts throughout the day as we come close to the announcement.

Well, the highlight is, of course, on the release of legendary cricketers such as Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Deepti Sharma and Laura Wolvaardt, among others. UP Warriorz retaining just one cricketer and releasing Sophie Ecclestone and Chinelle Henry were equally shocking, despite both cricketers could be bought back using the RTM card. However, we wait for the official list, which will be out tomorrow. 

Well, tomorrow, after the fourth T20I between India vs Australia, Star Sports will release the official list. Soon after that, the WPL will confirm the development as the franchises have already submitted their list before 5 pm on November 5. 

As Mumbai retained Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews, they had to release Amelia Kerr ahead of WPL 2026. Notably, the New Zealand all-rounder was adjudged the Player of the Tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup and was very consistent for Mumbai, but the franchise was left with no other choice.

In a bold move, UP Warriorz have retained only one cricketer ahead of the WPL 2026. Interestingly, the only cricketer they retained is an uncapped Indian batter, Shweta Sehrawat. It allows the franchise to use four RTM cards, including on two overseas cricketers. They have made the auction pretty interesting.

UP Warriorz have released their captain Alyssa Healy ahead of the WPL 2026 mega-auction. A shocker?

Despite all injury concerns, Shreyanka Patil has been retained. RCB also saved one RTM, that they can use on an uncapped Indian player.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained Ellyse Perry. There were speculations on whether the all-rounder would be retained, especially given her age, but it has been understood that the franchise has retained the Australia international ahead of WPL 2026.

Now, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt, the leading wicket-taker and run-scorer in WPL history, respectively, are the ideal candidates to retain, but how can a team leave out the likes of Amelia Kerr, who was the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup in 2024? Or players like Chloe Tyron and Nadine de Klerk? Surely, you don't want to be Mumbai Indians right now.

As per sources, Delhi Capitals have released N Charani ahead of the WPL 2026 mega-auction. Jemimah, Shafali and Niki Prasad were the three Indians who were retained. Notably, Charani was India's second-leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, but Delhi were left with no option as there was only room for an uncapped Indian, as Jemimah and Shafali were their priorities among capped Indians.

Meanwhile, BCCI has announced India's squad for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa.....oh yeah..Men's team's squad has been announced.

Fans are more excited for WPL retention, especially after India's World Cup triumph on Sunday (November 2). The retention deadline was November 5 but when are they planning to announce it? Strange from WPL and even the Star Sports, official broadcaster, to not give any update.

The purse for each team in the Women’s Premier League 2026 is set at Rs 15 crore.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of five players ahead of the auction. Within this cap, teams may keep up to three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indians. However, if all five are retained, at least one must be an uncapped Indian.

A trend has been set in the IPL, where key cricketers have pulled out of the list of retained players to be available in the auction. The sole reason behind the move is to fetch big money. Will we see the trend in WPL, too? It's not impossible. Players such as Hayley Matthews, Richa Ghosh and Shafali Verma are likely to be retained, but maybe not at a price slab that they will prefer.
