Mirpur, Bangladesh: Mahela Jayawardene hit his 46th test half century to lead Sri Lanka to a formidable 463-5 and a lead of 231 at lunch Wednesday on the third day of the first test against Bangladesh.

Mahela Jayawardene and captain Angelo Mathews appeared untroubled in the first session after resuming the day on 375-5. Jayawardene hit an unbeaten 83 and Mathews was batting on 46 at the break.

Mathews carried his rich vein of form by hitting four boundaries and one six to share 101 runs with Jayawardene in the morning session.

Jayawardene was particularly harsh on the pacers, who helped by bowling too short too frequently. Jayawardene smashed six fours and two sixes and looked well-set to reach his 33rd test century.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 232 in their first innings and Sri Lanka made a strong reply riding on Kaushal Silva's maiden century to take a firm command over the hosts.

Silva scored 139 while Sangakkara made 75 and Dimtuh Karunaratne had 53.

Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-129 while Sohag Gazi and Al-Amin Hossain picked up one wicket each.
