Perth, Australia: Australia captain Michael Clarke is on track to play in the first cricket test against India after scans Sunday showed his hamstring injury is not as serious as first feared.

Clarke re-injured the hamstring during the first one-day international against South Africa in Perth on Friday, leading to speculation he might miss the first of Australia's four tests against India staring in Brisbane on Dec. 4.

But chairman of selectors Rod Marsh said Sunday signs were positive that Clarke will recover more quickly than expected from his third hamstring strain since August.

Marsh said Clarke "saw a guy this morning and I've never seen a happier doctor on our team. He looked really happy with what's going to happen, so I'm backing Michael Clarke to play."
