Former Indian captain and the Head of the National Cricket Academy Rahul Dravid will be the coach of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, according to news agency ANI.

This is will be Dravid's second stint in a coaching position with the senior men's team, after he traveled with the side as a batting consultant on the tour of England in 2014.

"The Team India coaching staff will be in the UK and it is best that the young team is guided by Dravid as he has already worked with almost all of the India 'A' boys. The comfort the youngsters share with him will be an added advantage," an official told ANI.

The tour of Sri Lanka comprises of three ODIs and as many T20Is between July 13-27.

Dravid will be travelling as a coach for the side since India's head coach Ravi Shastri will be with the Test team to prepare for the five-match series against England, which begins in August.

In addition, India's bowling Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and batting coach Vikram Rathour will also remain with the Test team.

It is expected that a significant part of the squad which would travel to Sri Lanka would comprise players who have already played under Dravid's coaching with India's U-19 and A teams in the past.

Under Dravid's tenure as the coach of the U-19 setup, India lifted the World Cup in 2018. The former Indian captain is credited with laying the foundation of a number of cricketers players who are currently touted as the future generation of Indian cricket.
